These civilizations were rich in intellectual and scientific achievements. In the Islamic civilization of Mali, Black Muslims established Timbuktu.
Timbuktu was an internationally renowned center for Islamic learning and culture. Ibn Battuta, an Arab explorer who visited Timbuktu indicated that the book trade was the most flourishing bushiness there.
