"He is not a true believer who eats his fill while his neighbor beside him goes hungry."
Prophet Muhammad ﷺ · reported by al-Ṭabarānī
This is food apartheid, and we refuse to accept it.
In Englewood, families have watched grocery stores open with fanfare and then pack up and leave, while the liquor stores and fast food never close. That did not happen by accident, and it is no natural "food desert." It is food apartheid: the result of redlining, disinvestment, and decisions that starved Black Englewood of fresh, affordable food while other neighborhoods were fed.
The people of Englewood have built and rebuilt this community with their own hands. Good food should never depend on your zip code.
Black Dawah Network
We are an organization standing in the tradition of Malcolm X, joining the call to Islam with hands-on service to our own people. Feed the Hood is our answer to food apartheid in Englewood.
Feeding your neighbor is not charity. It is an obligation and a matter of justice. We are not waiting on anyone to come save our community. We take care of our own, block by block.
Every bag we hand out is halal, always and automatically. You never have to ask.
You're all set.
