Attorney Hakeem Muhammad of Black Dawah Network Sues Omaha Police for Pointing Guns at Terence Crawford’s Black Security Team

Attorney Hakeem Muhammad, Executive Director of Black Dawah Network and Founder of Muhammad Law Center, has filed a federal civil rights lawsuit against the City of Omaha and several police officers.

On December 8, 2025 — just hours after the City of Omaha held a massive victory parade celebrating undisputed welterweight champion Terence “Bud” Crawford — Omaha police pulled over the vehicle carrying Crawford’s security team. Officers immediately drew their weapons and pointed loaded guns at the occupants, including Qasim Shabazz, a Black security professional who was lawfully carrying a firearm as part of his duties.

The lawsuit alleges this was an unjustified and racially aggressive stop, constituting an unlawful seizure and excessive use of force.

This case highlights a painful reality: even moments of Black excellence and community celebration can be met with racial suspicion and police aggression. Through Muhammad Law Center, Black Dawah Network continues its mission of confronting systemic injustice and defending the dignity of Black people using Islamic principles of justice and mercy in action.
