This is food apartheid, and we refuse to accept it.
On the South Side, whole Black neighborhoods have been left without a real grocery store for miles, surrounded by liquor stores and fast food. That did not happen by accident, and it is no natural "food desert." It is food apartheid: the result of redlining, disinvestment, and decisions that starved Black Chicago of fresh, affordable food while other neighborhoods were fed.
Right here around Parkway Gardens, families feel it every day. Good food should never depend on your block.
